These awards that rely on fan votation and that’s not a good basis of how well a production or an actor is doing. Look at Eva. She consistently gets glowing reviews from credible and veteran theater critics but if you look at these award polls, Eva is always trailing behind the other casts even if those actors only have small parts or are not even principal cast. That’s because anyone who has internet access can vote in these polls several times even if they haven’t even seen the show.
I think Marsha actually fits the role of Gigi better than Rachelle. There’s both good but Marsha, for me, just screams Gigi. I guess Rachelle has more of a following over Marsha to nab the role for opening. I predict Marsha to take over the role when Rachelle vacates it.
If the cast take-overs are true, I’d love to see Kwang-Ho debut the first Asian Chris done by a HOMEGROWN Asian actor just to mark history.
I just cannot get behind the retooled Too Much for One Heart/Please. I know TMFOH was a big regret of the OLC to cut, the lyrics were beautiful. But Please is a more practical lyric (esp. for John’s character) & does a better job of expressing how desperate Kim was feeling by then. The reworked version doesn’t do justice to either the original cut solo or the duet it replaces. Maybe is a big improvement over Now That I’ve Seen Her though I prefer Her or Me I think it is how Ellen would be thinking
I get that Broadway is like a major venue for theater but why does it feel like a production isn’t considered “valid” unless it’s on Broadway. That rumor about Saigon not transferring got people so riled up, even those who are not even in America. People are so eager for actors to transfer to Broadway. Even at the height of the Kim rivalry someone here said they can’t wait for Eva to transfer so the haters will be left with Tanya. Like what even kind of thinking is that?
There is a reason why Niall and Julia are not principals. They are good, of course but sometimes they lack power, and Niall makes this thing where he is singing perfectly and suddenly is high pitched without a reason (he is like two men vocally)
I feel like Alistair isn’t comfortable being with an all-Asian cast based on seeing his pictures. He seemed like a goofy guy around his Les Mis people. I don’t know, I guess it’s just me.
I think Brammer’s Chris has anger issues. He’s mad at Ellen. He’s mad at the Engineer. He’s mad at John. He’s mad at Kim. He’s mad at Saigon. He’s just mad at everything.
OHHHH I though it was a toy like a cabbage patch kid or something
So yeah that confession was rude as hell & I deleted it already
@ the anon who sent me a confession a few minutes ago first off that was rude and way unnecessary second what the diddly fuck is a yaya
I have nothing against Eva but I think they would’ve really benefited from getting an unknown 18 year old who has at least has theater experience. I think Eva really has great raw talent but at this point she’s still developing her skills and is not yet capable of carrying a show, especially one of this size. She has really WOW moments but for the most part, she’s still trying to find her footing. And no, I’m not saying that Tanya should be lead or whoever else fans love pitting against Eva.
Sort of, it depends on how she’s played. Carolyn Maitland, for example, came the closest to how I think Ellen should be played. There was no anger in I Still Believe, just desperation because she so wanted Chris to open up so she could help him, then in Room 317 she was polite to Kim and tried to stay rational and calm her down and sympathised with how she hadn’t known about Chris having a wife. My only real issue with Ellen is her line in The Confrontation, “but Chris she still loves you, how can I have her near?”/”but John she still loves him, how can we have her there?”. I absolutely agree that Ellen has every right to be upset with Chris for leaving and putting her in that situation and not telling her the whole truth, but seriously? Kim and Tam shouldn’t go to America and Chris shouldn’t see his son because she’s worried about the threat to their relationship? Really? If they could just change that line to Ellen being worried that Kim being close to Chris would trigger memories of Vietnam and set off his PTSD or something it’d make the character a whole lot more sympathetic.
Kwang-Ho looks so young for his age. I was shocked to find out that he’s in his 30’s. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he’s his late teens-early 20’s.
I made a playlist of all versions of the cast recordings (OLC, complete symphonic, revival cast, gala recording, and several bootlegs) and I’ve been listening to it all week. I think Lea is still the best Kim. Objectively, it’s really hard to find fault in her. Her voice is crystal clear, she nails every note, and her delivery is so emotive. Any criticism of her is really more subjective. That’s not to say the other Kims are bad. But in the technical aspect, Lea just nails everything
I really like Maybe. It may even be my new favorite song from the show. But I also think it’s out of place in the show. I sounds like it belongs in a different musical.
